22nd Annual Oklahoma State Scholastic Chess Championship -- 2018

The 22nd Annual Oklahoma State Scholastic Chess Championship was held last Saturday at Carl Albert high school. The Norman Chess club took 15 members and 3 high school volunteers. It was a very tough tournament, with kids from all around the state attending, hoping to snatch the state champion title. Ryan Chen got so close, but lost his final game, earning himself second place in the K-4 section. Miranda and Kevin each got 4 wins out of 5 games, earning themselves a trophy! This was especially outstanding for Kevin because not only is he a 1st grader, this was also his second ever tournament. Emily, Jesper, Melody, Olli, and Patrick did great as well, each winning 3 out of 5 games, and taking home a medal. Other players also played well, including several players who participated in the formal chess tournament for the first time. The overall Norman team tied for 1st place against Tulsa University in the K-4 section, but unfortunately lost to them by tie breakers points. Nevertheless, awesome job everyone! Our club has improved so much over the past 2 years, and I can clearly tell that each and everyone one of our members has been working very hard. Keep up the great efforts and we'll for sure take state next year!
